The Board of Regents is composed of five members who are appointed by the Governor of New Mexico, with the consent of the Senate, for staggered terms of six years. The Board of Regents is responsible for the governance of the New Mexico Military Institute. This responsibility may be exercised only by the Board as a unit. The Board of Regents upholds to provide an education and training of the youth at NMMI that is of as high a standard as like institutions in other states and territories.
The Board's power to govern New Mexico Military Institute includes fiduciary responsibility for the assets and programs of the School, establishment of goals policies to guide the Institute and over sight of the functioning of the School. The Board vests responsibility for the management and operation of the Institute in the President/Superintendent.
